SiLKS Annual Meeting 2018 was successfully held in Paris, France on December 7th, 2018 with over 40 delegates from 24 think tanks, 6 international organizations and 4 multinational companies.
During the steering committee meeting, Mr. Li Wei, the president of the Development Research Center of the State Council, Chairman of the first Steering Committee, introduced the annual meeting agenda. He then announced that the new Secretary-General of SiLKS was Mr. Tao Pingsheng, the director general of International Cooperation Department of DRC. The meeting also approved Laos' National Economic Research Institute (NERI) and Peru's National Center for Strategic Planning (CEPLAN) to be new members of SiLKS. Joined by the two new members, SiLKS has a total of 42 members and 13 partners.
The opening ceremony of SiLKS Annual Meeting was chaired by Mr. Jusuf Wanandi, Vice Chair of the Centre for Strategic and International Studies Indonesia. During this session, Mr. Li Wei, Mr. Vuk Jeremić, the president of the Center for International Relations and Sustainable Development, and Mr. Mario Pezzini, the director of OECD Development Center, delivered opening remarks respectively.

The latter half of the annual meeting was moderated by Ms. Astrid Skala, the special advisor on BRI of Deutsche Gesellschaftfür Internationale Zusammenarbeit. Mr. Tao Pingsheng, the new Secretary-General of SiLKS, made SiLKS Annual Report (2017-2018) on behalf of the Secretariat, focusing on the Secretariat’s management mechanism, work plan, joint research, BRI database, e-SiLKS Platform and Publications in the past one year. Then Mr. Tao Pingsheng presented SiLKS Three-year Work Plan（2019-2021) to all the delegates for deliberation, blueprinting the vision and approach of SiLKS development which was warmly discussed by delegates. Mr. Balázs Horváth, Senior Economic Advisor for Asia-Pacific Region, Strategic Advisor for BRI, United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Mr. Mushahid HussainSayed, Chairman, Pakistan-China Institute, Ms. Bernice Lee, Research Director, Research Director-Global Economy and Finance; Executive Director, Hoffmann Centre, Chatham House and Mr. Diego López Garrido, Executive Vice President, Fundación Alternativas all shared their insights on SiLKS development.

Mr. Li Wei made concluding remarks pointing out that the annual meeting was held under the background of the fifth anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative and the third anniversary of SiLKS establishment, leading its particular significance of connecting the past and the future. The fruitful results of this annual meeting will provide the solid foundation for the sustainable development of SiLKS in the next stage.
