To strengthen the soft connectivity of international rules and standards for the Belt and Road Initiative, we should adhere to “compliance as the mainstay, improvement, and innovation as the supplement”. The key is to strengthen the international cooperation mechanism.

CPC Central Committee and the State Council have recently issued Opinion to Accelerate the Improvement of Socialist Market Economy in the New Era (hereinafter referred to as Opinion), stating that it is imperative to advance the in-depth and high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative, strengthen the soft connectivity of markets, rules and standards, and intensify the building of cooperation mechanism. Over the past seven years since the Belt and Road Initiative was proposed, a great deal of practical results and “early harvests” have been achieved, especially in the construction of infrastructure and other hard connectivity, while still many challenges and doubts are remained. It is urgent to strengthen the building of the soft connectivity in international rules and standards. To promote high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative in the new era, we must enhance the building of the soft connectivity in international rules and standards.
